About

David Iye Odey aka “Boogey” is a Nigerian hip hop recording artist, born in the state of Crossriver.

Growing up in Lagos, he attended Crown Gate Nursery & Primary School, Somolu and later gained his secondary school education from Federal Government College Lagos (FGCL), fondly called IJ, a short form for its Ijanikin location.

In 2010, Boogey had obtained a Bsc. in Biology from Cadi Ayyad University, Morocco, and returned to Nigeria to pursue a career in music.

In 2011, he was crowned champion of the sixth edition of “The Underground”, a musical contest. The victory created a buzz among music enthusiasts, and before long, reached the ears of Nigerian rapper, M.I. Abaga.

The following year, Boogey had a guest verse on M.I.’s “Ridiculous” on the Illegal Music 2 mixtape. Within the same year, he also had feature verses on projects from Modenine, Terry Tha Rapman (Now Lord TR) and more.

In October 2012, Boogey released his first compilation, a mixtape titled “Art-ificial Intelligence“, which went viral on the internet.

In 2013, after a few single releases, Boogey released a song/video titled “Sanctum” which made his name resonate within the music circles. Sanctum got him a HEADIES “Lyricist On The Roll” nomination and also an NMVA “Best Hip Hop Video” nomination.

In 2014, an “All Love” video was released. The song documented his fight against the odds to be heard and recognized, narrated his emotion after his nomination and had guests like Eva Alordiah, Tosyn Bucknor, close friends and a few respected people in the industry vouching for him and showing that it was “all love”.

In May 2015, Boogey released his second mixtape titled “T.I.N.A.A. (This Is Not An Acronym)“, in conjuction with Charlie X, a producer. The highly anticipated mixtape showed evolution and growth in his musical endeavour. He is currently working on four new compilation projects, one of which is a certain late 2015 release.
